Reg Angus Award for Nature
Congratulations to John Taylor for being our winner of the 2013 Reg Angus Award for Nature Photography, with his beautiful image of a Yellow Breasted Robin.
John took the shot with a Nikon D700, using a 70-200 f2.8 lens at F6.3, 1/200 sec ISO 720, with a 1.7 teleconverter attached.
It seems you don’t have to go far to capture great images –John took this shot along the track at Narrabeen Lake.
Passus by Nebuli Arts

Michael Haylen ‘Lightsculpts’ figure and form illusions derived from light on water Lane Cove River.
Des Crawley highlights the balance between virtue and vice in his fantasy figures.
Prue Platt-Hepworth explores the mystery of self.

FCC Topshot 2013
Time is running out to get your entries in to this years Topshot.
The FCC are now accepting entries to the 2013 Topshot.
Entry forms and info is available at http://www.photographynsw.org.au/pages/topshot-home.html
For the newer members of the club who may be unaware of what Topshot is all about – the rules are very simple.
To enter you must be a financial member of an FCC affiliated club – and yes we are members.
You enter as an individual, so any awards are for you – not your club. Even if you don’t win an award it is a great way to compare your images with the images of members from other clubs throughout NSW.
The categories this year are:
Print Section – Mono, Colour, Nature
Digital Section – Open Mono, Open Colour, Nature and Creative/Altered Reality
Entries close April 26, 2013.
Two members of our club have received serious gongs for their efforts in recent times.
In 2012 Fenella Clarke won Gold for the Best Creative Image with ‘Half Face’
And
In 2006 Mike West won Topshot and Best Colour Print.
The Pittwater Challenge 2013
Have you found all your 10 images yet for the ‘Something Missing’ challenge?
It sounds hard but isn’t when you start looking.
Have you seen a child with a missing front tooth, a window pane missing or perhaps a wheel off a car? Take a walk along your street – who knows what you may find that’s ‘missing’.
Take 10 separate images and put them all into one jpeg file (good practice here with layers). Full details can be found here
For our new members who may be a little curious about the challenge, please ask one of your committee members for a fuller explanation and a little guidance if you should need it.
It is not too late too find your 10 missing things.
And there is a great prize for the winner. So join in the challenge and have fun.

Calibration
Calibrating your monitor is an essential part of ensuring that the image you see on your monitor at home closely resembles what the judges and members see up on the screen on a competition night. Correct calibration also helps to ensure that your printed image closely matches what you see on your monitor.
The club has a calibrator that we lend out to members to assist with this.
Please talk to Peter, Brian, Bill or myself if you wish to borrow the calibrator.
