Last Monday night saw our club taking the honours away from Hornsby in a closely fought competition.

A big thank you to all members who put forward images for selection and for the Selection Committee for putting together a winning selection. Pittwater total scores were - mono 133 - colour 128 - digital 182 Hornsby Heights total scores were - mono 125 - colour 123 - digital 186 For all individual scores please refer to the email sent out by Peter last Tuesday. Len Metcalf workshop
Last weekend was the start of the winter festivities in the Blue Mountains and temperatures got down to -2 degrees overnight in Katoomba.
That didn't lessen the enthusiasm of 9 of our club members attending an educational workshop run by Len Metcalf. The Saturday was spent in the classroom picking Len's brains about anything and everything to do with his style of photography , his use of Lightroom and picking up invaluable tips from a true artist, and not a bad cook! Home made split pea soup with fresh baked bread for lunch was a nice touch. Friday and Saturday evenings were a mix of fine wine ,dinner , music and wonderful banter, and some more fine wine. Sunday was a predawn start (thank goodness for heated seats in cars) , for some mesmerising scenery of the valleys shrouded in mist and a trek down the Furber Steps for some beautifully lit bush scenes. Len's interaction with people and his ability and willingness to pass on his wealth of knowledge, both of this magical landscape and his style of image taking, made this a fun and educational morning. Breakfast back in town was a hearty feast enjoyed by a split group. (Some came back a little early due to prior commitments). Sorry that we missed saying goodbye to Airlie and Mike. Overall, a great experience that I would highly recommend to anyone if you get the opportunity to attend one of his workshops. For more info go to lensschool.com Cold hands??? Be inspired by things and peers around you, but don't frantically compare. A highly recommended book to get the creative juices flowing is The Photographers Mind by Michael Freeman. ( One of his many publications). Readily available as a download on amazon or as a used paperback through many U.S. sites. Thanks to Mike Maher and Peter Squires for this info. Another author who comes highly recommended is David Ward and his book Landscape Within: Insights and Inspiration for Photographers. Available through amazon |

Don't forget we are having a members run workshop later in the year.
This is a wonderful opportunity to share your knowledge and enthusiasm with fellow members and for you to learn from others and ask questions and share ideas. Do you have a particular area of interest that you want to know more about or do you have skills or special techniques you are keen to demonstrate to others and help them develop? This can include hands on camera work, lighting techniques, capture techniques, processing, using specific camera gear or accessories, travel tips etc. Are you thinking about getting some new gear and would be interested in learning from members own experience or get a hands on demonstration? Have you been involved in other workshops which worked well and would like to suggest we do something similar? Please let us know! Club SecretaryWe are still needing someone who can take on the role of Secretary.
Routine activities involve sending out email reminders and thank yous to presenters and judges, and helping with the yearly planning of all club events and competitions. If you feel you can spare a few hours each fortnight and would like to be more involved with the Club's general running and direction , please talk to Peter or Bill and we can fill you in on what is required.
