Our next meeting will be on Monday November 6th.

This is a competition night , with the judge being Peita Ward.
Peita has judged for us previously and has always excelled in her critiquing of our images.
The competition is "Open - First Edition".
We are looking for images that have never been presented at Pittwater Camera Club in any format.
You may enter up to 2 digital , 2 monochrome prints and 2 colour prints as per details set out on our website.
Please ensure your digital images are sent to [email protected] no later than 8.00 pm on Saturday November 4th.
See below for digital image titling parameters.

Come and join us tomorrow evening (Monday 30th October) 7.30 at the club to help us brainstorm next years program.
All welcome , but if you can't come along and want to have input in how your club is run , please shoot us an email or text or an old fashioned phone call.

Our updated program for the rest of the year is available on the Club website.
Please refer to it for any changes and additions.

Digital Image Titling

During our recent selection of images for the Interclub competition we had some issues with several digital images not being labelled correctly,  rendering them unusable in competition because we did not know who was the photographer.
There were at least two images we wanted to use but couldn't.
PLEASE ensure your digital images are TITLED and include your FULL NAME as per the instructions on our website.
Use only lower case characters with no spaces. Use underscore in place of spaces.
eg:  the_shearers_ben_jones.jpg

Nik Software

Just a few months after Google said it was abandoning Nik and ending development , DxO ( a French company known for its image processing software as well as camera equipment reviews through its DxOMark brand )  has acquired the collection and will continue development " for the benefit of the photographic community ".

The current Nik Collection , which contains 7 desktop plugins is now available for free through the DxO website.
DxO has also said it is planning to release a new version of the Nik Collection sometime next year.

Lightroom CC vs Lightroom Classic

Just when you were getting settled with Lightroom , Adobe have confused us mere mortals even more than usual.
Before you jump in and upgrade your subscription (or any operating system upgrades for that matter ), do your homework first.
Colin Smith from Photoshop Cafe has more information.   www.photoshopCAFE.com

Phlearn also has a new Lightroom series , however it is on their subscription base so cost may be an issue .
You can decide for yourself    www.phlearn.com

Make art that speaks with your voice, instead of art that asks "Am I like the others? Am I good enough? "
Be inspired by things and peers around you, but don't frantically compare.

A highly recommended book to get the creative juices flowing is The Photographers Mind by Michael Freeman.
( One of his many publications).

Readily available as a download on amazon or as a used paperback through many U.S. sites.
Thanks to Mike Maher and Peter Squires for this info.

Another author who comes highly recommended is David Ward and his book Landscape Within: Insights and Inspiration for Photographers.
Available through amazon

Colorspike - create in color

The guys who produced Pixelstick a few years back have launched a new Kickstarter campaign.
Colorspike , an animation - driven photo / video light that is right at home in any shooters kit.
Kickstarter backers save at least $50 over retail pricing.
While there is always an element of risk in any Kickstarter campaign, I have never had any issues with any campaigns I have supported .
