This will be a presentation evening with renowned bird photographer Richard Fackender giving us lots of tips on ‘How to Shoot Birds’.
Our meeting will commence at 7.45 pm for an 8.00 pm start
We look forward to seeing you at:

Membership
It’s that time of the year again when our club membership fees fall due.
Single Member $40.00
Family $60.00
Students Under 18 $20.00
Brian will be on hand to collect your fees during our meeting on January 20th.
You are reminded that to be eligible to enter images to our competitions you must be a financial member of Pittwater Camera Club.
Name Tags
Please everyone, can you always wear your name tag. Most of us know who you are, but our newer members do not and this is the easiest way for all of us to learn who is who.
Don’t have a name tag? Sue looks after the name tags and she will gladly arrange a tag for you to be available at the following meeting.
Web Page
Many of you will have already seen our great new web site. Our new webmaster Mike, with absolutely no idea on how to do web design has created a new look for us. This will be continually revamped each time he learns a new skill!!!
On our web site you will find details on everything you need to know about our club, but if you think there should be something there which isn’t, send Mike an email at [email protected] (there is also a direct link from the web page).
Galleries
On our web page we will, as usual, be highlighting the awarded images from our monthly competitions in a slide show.
BUT – if you have a web site somewhere showcasing your images please let Mike know and he will provide a link to your site.
Let’s show the world just how great the photographers at Pittwater Camera Club are.
Pittwater Challenge
The Pittwater Challenge will again run in 2014.
This year your committee has chosen a subject quite different to previous years and this time you only have to submit 1 image.
That’s right, only 1 image, so there will be absolutely no excuse for you not to enter.
What’s the subject – come along to our first meeting on January 20th and all will be revealed.
For our newer members the Pittwater Challenge is designed to get you ‘out there’, to learn about your camera, develop new skills, to become aware of your surroundings, and to mentally focus on a preconceived idea and to have fun.
As always, we DARE YOU to accept the challenge.
Portfolios
Several members expressed interest in doing a portfolio in 2014 and I have contacted those members already, but if you are interested or just want to find out what portfolios are all about, then I have arranged a meeting on Sunday, February 2nd at 1.30 pm at Manly Leagues Club in their usual meeting rooms.
Yvonne Lewington will be our speaker and she has arranged this meeting, in conjunction with Bill Atherton, President of Manly Camera Club, whose members will also be conducting a portfolio in 2014.
Portfolios are a great opportunity to step outside your comfort zone, to explore an unknown path that is not restricted in any way to the confines and rules of competition photography.
So if you are interested in ‘growing’ your photography and have not already advised me that you wish to become a member of our group, please let me know, preferably by email.
Camera Insurance
One of our members, Mike Fisher, recently found a great place to take out worldwide insurance cover for all your camera gear.
Pop over to http://www.photoinsurance.com.au/ if you are interested.

Photo Ops
Photo ops are not organized club outings, rather they are suggestions of things to do and places to go that present great photographic opportunities.
January 9 – 26, Sydney Festival - http://www.sydneyfestival.org.au/2014/
January 1 – 28, Hawkesbury International Sand Sculpting Championship
http://www.sandstormevents.net/major-events-2/international-sand-sculpting-championship/
January 26, Australia Day is a great opportunity for you to get out there to capture the fun. Hop down to Newport Beach, 7.30 am – 10.00 am, grab yourself a bacon and egg roll and join in the thong throwing.
Or head in to the city to see the ferry races and then later practice capturing the fireworks – all great opportunities to improve your photography.

What’s On Pittwater
Another of our members, Chris Riou of Newport Travel, has a terrific web site listing absolutely everything that is going on in the Pittwater area. The site is continually updated, so if you are running short of photographic ideas take a look at http://whatsonpittwater.com.au/wp/
Exposure
Would you like more exposure for your business?
For a small donation to Pittwater Camera Club we will arrange for your logo, business address and phone number and link to your web site from various pages of the Pittwater Camera Club website, along with the same in our newsletters.
The only criteria is that you must be a financial member of Pittwater Camera Club, be a sole trader or in a partnership and have an ABN.
Our website attracts several thousand visitors per year and our newsletter is distributed to over 100 people every two weeks.
This represents a wide coverage of prospective customers for your business for less than $1 per week.
So if you are a tradie, accountant, solicitor, shop keeper, hairdresser, beautician, window cleaner etc, and are interested in getting your business name out there to an even wider market, please contact Peter, Bill, Brian or myself and we will go into it in a lot more detail with you.
Camera Gear
Have you recently purchased a new camera and now find you have excess gear? Let me know and I will put your items in our newsletter.
Competition Entry Form
Don’t forget to download your ‘Competition Entry Form’ to store on your computer and print out when required. Just Ctrl + click here
Image Mounts
Peninsula Reflections at Warriewood very kindly supply mat boards to the club at prices that cannot be bettered anywhere. If you wish to purchase boards at any time just talk to Brian at the door.
If you are unsure how to mount an image just go to our web site, click on Resources or Ctrl + click here
Calibration
Calibrating your monitor is an essential part of ensuring that the image you see on your monitor at home closely resembles what the judges and members see up on the screen on a competition night. Correct calibration also helps to ensure that your printed image closely matches what you see on your monitor.
The club has a calibrator that we lend out to members to assist with this.
Please talk to Peter, Brian, Bill or myself if you wish to borrow the calibrator.
Club Patron
Brent Pearson inspires with his photography and techniques. His love of photography and his passion for sharing his knowledge serves as a great role model for fellow photographers. Visit Brent's website - Ctrl + click here
