2019 ended with an enthusiastic attendance at our "Images of the Year" evening , engagingly critiqued by the always entertaining Phil Ramsden.

Phil was able to give his thoughts on every image entered and in the end awarded the best photographs , monochrome , colour and projected as he saw fit.

Thank you to everyone who came along to enjoy the festivities.

Thank you to everyone who donated to the raffles.

Congratulations to those lucky people who won the hampers.

Stay safe and have a wonderful Christmas and New Year.

We will be back on Monday 20th January 2020 in the Pittwater RSL auditorium to kick off a new decade of the
Pittwater Camera Club.

If you have any images that did not quite live up to expectations but may have an amusing background story or you just want some critiquing, please shoot them through to [email protected] and we will have a little fun on Monday 20th January.

Just like the old slide show days!

"Photography is for me, a spontaneous impulse that comes from an ever attentive eye, which captures the moment and its eternity."
Henri Cartier Bresson

Yorkshire woman wins international garden photography competition with vinegar and soap suds - but no camera

Picture
Jill Welham's Fireworks Credit: Jill Welham  8th February 2019
A Yorkshire woman won a prestigious international gardening photography competition despite not using a camera and having no interest in gardening.
Jill Welham, 52, from Richmond, UK , beat thousands of others to be crowned International Garden Photographer of the Year with a cyanotype print, entitled Fireworks, made with vinegar and washing up liquid.
She coats special paper with a paste made of powdered, cyanotype chemicals mixed with water, then sprays it with a mixture of diluted vinegar and "soap suds".
Cut, pressed flowers are then placed on top of it before it is covered with a sheet of glass and placed outside in the sunshine. After a few hours, the glass and flowers are removed and the paper is rinsed.
"The bubbles become trapped and it creates these different textures and colours," she said.
"People are increasingly looking for alternative photographic methods, going back to analogue roots.
"It appeals to my nature because each print is unique and individual."
Thanks Robyn for this interesting little snippet.
