Our Next Meeting
The next meeting of the Pittwater Camera Club will be held on December 2, 2013
This will be the annual ‘Images of the Year’, and our judge will be Philip Ramsden. As this is our final night of the year you are invited to bring along your partners, family and friends so they can see what our members have photographed this year.
Images submitted must have been entered to one of our competitions during 2013 or the FCC Interclub 2013 or Hornsby Heights Interclub 2013.
The images do not have to have been awarded a merit or credit, the selection is up to you.
This is our most prestigious night of the year; it is when the ‘Photographer of the Year’ is announced, along with the place getters for colour prints, mono prints and digital images.
The recipients of the ‘Jim Mullens Award for Australian Landscape’, the ‘Shirley Fealy Award for Creative Photography’ and the ‘Reg Angus Award for Nature Photography’ will also receive their awards.
On top of that our judge, Philip Ramsden will decide which image will be named as the ‘Image of the Year’.
The usual number of images may be submitted, 2 mono prints, 2 colour prints and 2 digital images,
Digital Images are to be sent to – Mike West – [email protected] before 9pm November 27th
Our meeting will commence at 7.45 pm for an 8.00 pm start
We look forward to seeing you at:
BYRA
1842 Pittwater Road
Bayview
The rules of entry to our competitions can be found here.
Christmas Party
Following the ‘Images of the Year’, we will be serving cold canapés and nibbles, along with wine and juices for your enjoyment. This represents a great time to relax, unwind and catch up with members and their families.
This year your committee has decided that we will totally fund the cost of the party – so it will not be necessary for you to bring a plate.
We would like a few volunteers to arrive at about 7.00 pm to help set up the chairs and stands for the night and to stay back afterwards to help with the clean up.
Everyone else, please arrive in time enough to place your images on the stands.
Annual Raffle
Every year PCC have a monster raffle, the winning tickets being drawn at our ‘Images of the Year’.
If you have not already done so, can you please bring along your donation to the raffle on the night.
Brian Smith and I will be selling tickets throughout the evening – the winning tickets will be drawn during our Christmas party supper.
We are asking for any items that can add to the Christmas spirit – biscuits, table decorations, wine, cake, etc. Please do not send along any item that needs refrigeration and ‘donations’ should not be more than $10.00.
Next Year
The first meeting for 2014 will be on January 20th. Renowned bird photographer Richard Fackender will be showing us some of his superb bird shots and giving us all a few tips and tricks on how the grab great shots.
This is something to really look forward to, a reminder will be sent to you in January along with our full programme for 2014.
Portfolios
At the recent AGM several members express a great interest in having the opportunity in 2014 to create a portfolio.
For those who were not at the meeting the basis of a portfolio is not a series of photos grabbed out of your files and put together as a series, rather, you choose a photographic subject that you feel passionate about and then over the course of the year photograph the subject in a different manner.
This is an opportunity to ‘break the rules’. At the end of the 12 months you should end up with a series of up to 12 images of your chosen subject. We will hold a special night for a presentation of the portfolios to our members and guests, but no first, second or third prizes are awarded. The prize is achieving your goal.
Regular portfolio group meetings are held throughout the year, under the wing of a mentor, and all participants discuss their portfolios and are encouraged to give honest criticisms to the other members of the group.
If you are interested in joining our first ever portfolio group can you please let me know asap as I have to sort out a date and time for our first meeting with the experienced portfolio presenter.
This project is not for everyone, that we understand, but do hope that we will have a group of about 10 to 12 enthusiastic members.
Q and A
Again at the AGM it was suggested that at the beginning of each meeting we hold a quick 5 – 10 minute Q and A session. This will be your opportunity to ask any question you have regarding photography or club matters.
Remember – there is no such thing as a silly question!
So, if there is something about your camera or photography in general that you just don’t get, we are now giving you the opportunity to find the answers.
Cross Projections
For those needing inspiration for a portfolio then Cross projections which is a multi media, cinematic screening of sixteen photographers personal essays, may give you some inspiration. Cross Projections grew out of the desire of photographers to maintain control over the presentation of their work and to showcase their work to the wider community.

Merry Christmas
If you are unable to come along to our ‘Images of the Year’ we would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas and a happy, safe New Year.
See you in 2014.
Exposure
Would you like more exposure for your business?
For a small donation to Pittwater Camera Club we will arrange for your logo, business address and phone number and link to your web site from various pages of the Pittwater Camera Club website, along with the same in our newsletters.
The only criteria is that you must be a financial member of Pittwater Camera Club, be a sole trader or in a partnership and have an ABN.
Our website attracts several thousand visitors per year and our newsletter is distributed to over 100 people every two weeks.
This represents a wide coverage of prospective customers for your business for less than $1 per week.
So if you are a tradie, accountant, solicitor, shop keeper, hairdresser, beautician, window cleaner etc, and are interested in getting your business name out there to an even wider market, please contact Peter, Bill, Brian or myself and we will go into it in a lot more detail with you.

Calibration
Calibrating your monitor is an essential part of ensuring that the image you see on your monitor at home closely resembles what the judges and members see up on the screen on a competition night. Correct calibration also helps to ensure that your printed image closely matches what you see on your monitor.
The club has a calibrator that we lend out to members to assist with this.
Please talk to Peter, Brian, Bill or myself if you wish to borrow the calibrator.
Club Patron
Brent Pearson inspires with his photography and techniques. His love of photography and his passion for sharing his knowledge serves as a great role model for fellow photographers. Visit Brent's website - Ctrl + click here
