Welcome back to the Pittwater Camera Club newsletter and what is set to be an entertaining and educational year for our club.

Competitions, outings, presentations and workshops are on the agenda for 2020 and we start the year off with an

" OPEN " competition next Monday 3rd February.

Our judge for the evening is Peita Ward.

Please note this new time of 11.00 pm on the Saturday night before competition, for submission of digital images, is for all competitions.

Camera Club Outing 6pm Friday 14th February.

WE ARE ORGANISING AN EVENING PHOTO OPPORTUNITY TO ENHANCE OUR SPORTS PHOTOGRAPHY SKILLS.

THE VENUE IS THE HART DRIVER TRAINING CENTER, WHICH IS DIRECTLY OPPOSITE (ON LEFT HAND SIDE) THE ENTRANCE TO THE ST IVES SHOWGROUND, WHEN HEADING WEST

THIS IS A CLOSED CIRCUIT, WHERE THE RIDERS RACE LAPS OF THE CIRCUIT.  DIFFERING  NUMBER OF LAPS FOR DIFFERENT GRADES OF RACING ON THE NIGHT.

THE RACE USUALLY LASTS 45 MINUTES TO 1 HOUR AND STARTS AT 6.30PM AND IS RUN BY MANLY WARRINGAH CYCLE CLUB.
 WE SHOULD MEET AT THE VENUE AT 6.00PM.

WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET CLOSE TO THE RACE CIRCUIT, WITHIN SAFETY REGULATIONS, AND WALK TO DIFFERENT AREAS OF THE COURSE.

SOME PHOTOGRAPHY SKILLS THAT CAN BE PRACTICED ON THE NIGHT INCLUDE…. PANNING, FAST SHUTTER SPEEDS TO FREEZE THE ACTION, SLOW SHUTTER SPEEDS TO BLUR THE MOTION, SHOOTING FROM BOTH HIGH AND LOW POSITIONS TO NAME A FEW.

I WILL BE SENDING FURTHER TECHNICAL INFORMATION FOR THOSE MEMBERS WHO MAY NOT BE SO FAMILIAR WITH THESE ASPECTS OF SPORTS PHOTOGRAPHY. 

IMPORTANT... THESE RACES ARE CANCELLED IN WET WEATHER AND NOTICE FROM MANLY CYCLE CLUB CAN BE VERY SHORT.

New Photography YouTube Show

I am getting in contact to bring to your attention a new photography YouTube show which has been in the making for the past 2 years. It’s a free to watch monthly show released on the final Sunday of each month at 4pm. Each show will be around 40 minutes in duration and will consist of a combination of tutorials, equipment reviews, location information, editing tips, as well as some photography related entertainment. We will also be giving away some impressive prizes.

The show is produced on the Isle of Skye in Scotland but we cover locations all over the world as we follow professional photographers going about their business.

The show is aimed at all levels of photographer, with some of our features focusing on more basic skills and others being more advanced.

This is a brand new show for 2020 and we are trying to get the word out, so please help us by forwarding details to the members of your camera club.

The Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize (MCPP) has been part of the Australian photographic calendar for more than 10 years.  During this period, it has seen many great photographs of Australian Contemporary Life shared with the wider community through the Prize and the Moran Arts Foundation is proud of this contribution.
 
For 2020 and considering the huge changes in the photographic media environment over the past decade, the Moran Arts Foundation will be taking time to review the existing format of the Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize. Whilst the review is underway, there will be no Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize. The Moran Arts Foundation is committed to supporting and nurturing this vibrant, evolving art form in the years ahead.
 
The free Student Photographic Workshop Program which provides young Australian school children with the opportunity to learn the art of photography regardless of background or geography will continue unchanged.

PLEASE ensure your digital images are TITLED and include your FULL NAME as per the instructions on our website.
Use only lower case characters with no spaces. Use underscore in place of spaces.

The Head On Photo Awards 2020 are now open for entries!
As you may have noticed, there have been some changes in the awards structure this year and there is no longer a Mobile Award.
Head On was one of the first organisations to recongise the value of mobile phone photography. The genre has grown in recent years and we no longer think it is necessary for it to be judged in a seperate category.
While there is not an award specifically for mobile, the Landscape, Portrait and Student Awards accept photographs taken on any photographic device, including a mobile phone.

Wow! So much has been happening in the world of cameras and photography. New cameras seem to be popping up every day as well as many new lenses and processing software advances. 

Firmware Updates. Remember though that often the gear you already have can be given a freshen up too. From time to time manufacturers release firmware updates to enhance your camera and its capabilities. A recent update to my Nikon Z7 gives it the capability to use the new superfast CFexpress memory cards as well as the existing XQD cards. Previously another firmware update introduced eye-autofocus to the camera. All the manufacturers do this so check your firmware version to see it is up to date. You could be missing out on some great new features.
