Our updated program for the rest of the year is available on the Club website.
Please refer to it for any changes and additions. Digital Image Titling
During our recent selection of images for the Interclub competition we had some issues with several digital images not being labelled correctly, rendering them unusable in competition because we did not know who was the photographer.
There were at least two images we wanted to use but couldn't. PLEASE ensure your digital images are TITLED and include your FULL NAME as per the instructions on our website. Use only lower case characters with no spaces. Use underscore in place of spaces. eg: the_shearers_ben_jones.jpg Marie Gains Top FCC Honour
For those who know Marie , many would not know the work and time she has devoted to Pittwater Camera Club.
Marie was our President for 28 years and has held several other positions since handing over the reins to Peter. Always happy to welcome and tutor any of our newcomers and always a wonderful source of knowledge , Marie was recognised by the FCC and awarded an Exceptional Service Award at yesterdays Interclub meeting. A crowd of around 100 people were on hand to see Marie receive her certificate and lapel badge with 2 lovely bunches of flowers , one from the FCC and the nicer one from all of her friends at Pittwater Camera Club. Marie is a Life Member of Pittwater Camera Club and still is one of our FCC delegates and is on our Selection Committee. On a personal note , I would like to thank Marie for her guidance over the years and her friendship. ( and Alf's sausage rolls ). Well done Marie , you are an inspiration! FCC Interclub CompetitionThe annual FCC (Federation of Camera Clubs) Interclub competition has been run and won.
The day started early with setting up of stands and print images which was done by a wonderful group of volunteers from our club and assisted by members of Castle Hill RSL Camera Club. I have attended many of these functions over the years and can honestly say I have never seen a more efficient and quick setup as we were all done by 11 am . Normally labelling of prints is still going after the commencement of proceedings. The whole day ran smoothly with a minimum of fuss and this was mainly due to our club members who volunteered their time and energy. I would like to personally thank everyone involved for helping make this an event that I am sure the FCC will acknowledge as an event well run. Also , special thanks to Peter Squires for the countless hours spent coordinating with the FCC and Pittwater RSL Club and making this event come to fruition. Derek Mobbs from Epson gave a wonderful insight in to the intricacies of print output which I am sure that anyone who does their own printing will have benefited from his lecture. I have picked up some handy hints to help save money. Many of our members were lucky in some of the raffles with prizes ranging from selfie drones valued at $650 to Adobe CC subscriptions to monopods , tripods , camera bags , lens cleaning kits and all other sorts of wonderful photographic prizes. Alas , Pittwater Camera Club did not pick up any awards this year . Not for lack of trying , but the competition was fierce. We will aim for a better result next year. I am still waiting for the phone call from Epson to tell them where to deliver my new SC P600 printer ! |

Be inspired by things and peers around you, but don't frantically compare. A highly recommended book to get the creative juices flowing is The Photographers Mind by Michael Freeman. ( One of his many publications). Readily available as a download on amazon or as a used paperback through many U.S. sites. Thanks to Mike Maher and Peter Squires for this info. Another author who comes highly recommended is David Ward and his book Landscape Within: Insights and Inspiration for Photographers. Available through amazon Pink Competition
Our last meeting , a self judged macro / closeup competition was well attended.
As an aside , and to support Pittwater RSL and their fund raising efforts for the McGrath Foundation , we had a gold coin entry into a "Pink" competition. As you can see from the above image it was hotly contested with the winning entry as selected by Andrew , Duty Manager Pittwater RSL , being the awesome image of a Florida Flamingo taken be Tricia Roe. ( Second from left , bottom row ). Well done Tricia and we hope you enjoyed your prize of a very expensive bottle of pink bubbles ! We are making a donation of $119 to the RSL Club which was funds raised on the evening. Thank you to everyone who participated. |
