Our next meeting will be on Monday October 9th.

It is a competition night with the theme being  macro/close up.
Our definition for this subject is "An image taken from a short distance that gives close detail of the subject."
Our judges for the evening will be you.

Please email your CORRECTLY sized digital images to [email protected] no later than 7.00 pm Saturday 7th October due to our entries coordinator going away on holidays

We will start at 7.30 pm.

Also don't forget we have a special print competition which is in support for the McGrath Foundation .
You are asked to present 1 mounted print based on the subject of "Pink".
It does not have to be in the literal sense of pink , it could infer an emotion or idea of the word.
Let your senses run wild.
We are asking for a gold coin donation to be part of this and as a club we will be donating to the Pittwater RSL's fund driving efforts towards this cause.

There will be a prize for the best entry as judged by Kristy Symons , Sales and Events Coordinator of Pittwater RSL.

Our updated program for the rest of the year is available on the Club website.
Please refer to it for any changes and additions.

David Jenkins Nomad Photography

Our last meeting had David Jenkins presenting some wonderful wildlife images and his methods of capture.
His enthusiasm and passion for what he does is contagious and I hope everyone is as enthusiastic as I am to get out and practice , practice , practice.
Set a goal , start a project , just do anything that will encourage you to improve your photography skills.
The only hurdle to improving your image making is you.
I am looking forward to having David back next year to see how far he has advanced with his bird photography.

Digital Image Titling

During our recent selection of images for the Interclub competition we had some issues with several digital images not being labelled correctly,  rendering them unusable in competition because we did not know who was the photographer.
There were at least two images we wanted to use but couldn't.
PLEASE ensure your digital images are TITLED and include your FULL NAME as per the instructions on our website.
Use only lower case characters with no spaces. Use underscore in place of spaces.
eg:  the_shearers_ben_jones.jpg

FCC Interclub Competition

The annual FCC (Federation of Camera Clubs) Interclub competition is fast approaching and  will be held on Sunday 15th October from 10.00 am.
We are hosting this years event and our Selection Committee will be requiring prints for entry in to the competition.
The competition is similar to other Camera Club competitions in that there are several different sections to enter including print and digital sections.
Our selection committee was short handed with people away on holidays , so Fenella and Alan stepped up to help with Marie and Bill.
We managed to fill most categories but were very short on prints which made the job difficult , however Alf's sausage rolls helped to ease the pain.
Thank you Marie for your hospitality and it is great to see Alf well on the road to a full recovery.

Drones Information with CASA & UAVAIR

The drone world has exploded much like the digital capture world since the early 2000's.

If you fly a drone , are thinking about flying a drone or are just interested in the world of quad flight , then an evening at Kayell Australia at 30 Whiting Street , Artarmon may be of interest.

The date is Wednesday 18th October from 6pm to 8.30 pm.
Cost is free to AIPP members and $45 for non members.

This is an AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photography) event and bookings are essential through Kayell's website.

Make art that speaks with your voice, instead of art that asks "Am I like the others? Am I good enough? "
Be inspired by things and peers around you, but don't frantically compare.

A highly recommended book to get the creative juices flowing is The Photographers Mind by Michael Freeman.
( One of his many publications).

Readily available as a download on amazon or as a used paperback through many U.S. sites.
Thanks to Mike Maher and Peter Squires for this info.

Another author who comes highly recommended is David Ward and his book Landscape Within: Insights and Inspiration for Photographers.
Available through amazon

A hot and dry weekend didn't spoil the festival which is becoming bigger than Ben Hur. The total fire ban meant there were no cannons or musket firing and no blacksmithing  , but this a small price to pay when the rest of the photographic opportunities were there for the taking.
All the participants are friendly and welcoming for photographs and the jousting and birds of prey are a sight to behold.
I always enjoy going down to the back paddocks where the horses are kept and getting up close and personal with the handlers and Knights and horses.
They are always open for a chat about what they do which is a marvelous insight into this old world of chivalry and damsels in distress.
The Trebuchet and its powerful way of demolishing watermelons is always a fun sight.
100 kg Irish Wolfhounds which come up to your chest in size and are so gentle and placid , they are recommended for apartment dwellers!
To say that the participants in all the displays really get into character is an understatement.
If you have not been to the Faire before , I would highly recommend you plan it for next year as there are hundreds of phenomenal photo opportunities to be had as well as an educational experience you are unlikely to get any where else.
